on June 15, 2007Ben,
I assume the rating from 1 - 5, means 5 is the BEST! This is a LOVELY SHOT!
Good choice on your part -- Brides spend a LOT of money on flowers; brides LOVE flowers, so capturing this close-up image is a wise move. I'll bet she orders this shot for her album.
If you don't mind, here's one minor suggestion:
Roses "bruise" very easily. I would have carefully REMOVED the FOUR BRUISED PETALS that are closest to the bottom of the image, from left to right. (Or, you can leave them in and touch them up in Photoshop.) Then, the roses will look "perfect" (But then again, I'm a perfectionist.) Again, I notice these things from having shot weddings and functions and critiquing the images / prints (especially when enlarged.)
The Bride will be happy with this as it is, Im sure. It's just a suggestion, based on experience and having developed a "critical eye" from being in the design and advertising business. I have to go over layouts with a FINE-TOOTHED comb (If I don't, the client will -- the Art Director's NEVER seem to catch those things, but the CLIENTS sure do, believe me.) One time, a SR. ART DIRECTOR gave me a layout to approve before I could send it to the client. He worked hard on it -- but guess what? He forgot to put the darned PRODUCT (OREO) in it AND forgot to add the OREO logo! Client would have KILLED me if I sent it to him like that.
Anyway, removing those four petals will not hurt the image (or her lovely, expensive bouquet.) You'll have to tell the Bride to "trust you" on something like that. :) More of her hand will show then, which may be a good thing, (but it doesn't bother me that it DOESN'T show. The flowers are the "HERO" in this shot. They are lovely. Beautiful composition and wise choice on your part!
Love,
Barbara Thomas
